Short Hike Around the Ouachita Trail West of Hwy 9 Near Lake Sylvia

Hiking down the Ouachita Trail just west of Hwy 9 I thought back on how this was one of my very first areas to explore when I moved to Little Rock in 1980. Coming here after living in Memphis for 16 or so years was the best thing I ever did. At age 23 all of western Arkansas was available for exploration. The flat lands of western Tennessee were not much for a young guy wanting adventure. As a kid we hiked out into the countryside and camped in cow pastures and woods around farms. This part of the trail was my introduction to the Ouachita National Forest. I have loved Arkansas ever since.
